LAST Weekends Exciting Adventure

Hello everyone!

Seeing as how this weekend  was unbearably unexciting I've finally gotten around to posting LAST weekends pictures.
Saturday night a few friends got together to make sushi and a brownie in a mug. Here are the pictures that came out of this fabulous adventure!

Myths BUSTED and a whole lot of cooking!!

Hello folks!

Sorry this has been such a quiet week on the blog front. Not much exciting has happen. I decided to rest up so I'm ready to go when shcool (and rehearsals for Fiddler on the Roof) start on Monday.

Last night and today however was full of lots and LOTS o'cooking! I've come to realize that it is SO much more cost and time effective if I take a day to cook a bunch of meals and freeze them individually for evenings when I don't get home until very late (...most evenings in my case...). It's also easy to just throw them in my lunch bag so I don't have to buy food at school :) So, as per usual I took pictures of my adventures.

In total I made chili (4 portions), Mulligatawny soup (4 portions), my FAVORITE spaghetti recipe-my grandmother on my father's side (3 portions...I would have had 4 but made one today's lunch...), Sausage with scalloped potatoes (2 portions), pepper steak and scalloped potatoes (1 portion) and couscous salad with indian beef (2 portions). The freezer is packed FULL!

Here are some pictures:

Prepping the food and organizing the recipes:
A GREAT recipe for Mulligatawny soup found HERE
My computer filled with recipes (and my evening entertainment of QAF)
Frying the onions for the soup
The late night (...midnight) nachos I made
They were so pretty I had to take the picture in color too...
 The chili
My new spice jars from bulk barn (filled with Bulk Barn spices too!), I didn't have a label maker so I numbered the jars and made a list of what was in what.
The aftermath of dishes...still sitting on the counter as I write this. And this is even WITH me doing the dishes (for the most part...) as I went.

Now, with ALL (haha!) that being said, here's onto the myth buster part of this post.

I have read SO many articles on how to prevent crying when cutting onions (and pretty much EVERY recipe I made contained onions...). I read about cutting onions while chewing gum, while holding a piece of bread in your mouth with part of it hanging out, and keeping the peeled onion in the freezer until it's ready to be chopped. Let me tell you, NONE of them worked...and it's a darn good thing that I was home alone-I'm positive I looked like a fool. I did, however come up with a solution of my own. One a tad more fashionable then wearing chemistry goggles...ladies and gentleman, I present to you:

Ray bans!!!! I killed those onions-tear free!! And looked darn good while doing it too!

I hope you all are having a lovely restful weekend.

Cheers!

Thoughts...

Good morning everyone!

This, is a very, VERY early morning blog post...

I could not for the life of me stay asleep tonight so I decided to re-vamp my blog. (I've only had it for 3 weeks and I'm already re-designing it...eek!)

I hope you all like it, let mw know in the comments section below what you think (keep it, change it back, change it to something completely different...). That being said, I invite you to always leave any comments on any of my blog posts if you do feel so inclined...I'd love some feedback!

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas (or holiday celebration) and continue to enjoy your time with the people you love (friends, family, animals!, etc.). I for one still have a couple more (3) Christmas celebrations to go.

I leave you now with an amazing photo project HERE. It's called the "1010" project. 10 photographers, 10 photos each, all taken on October 10, 2010 (10/10/10). I hope you enjoy it!

Hello folks!

I am SO excited about my new toys that I got tonight.
I realized while walking around Canadian Tire how much life really has changed in the past year or so...I was excited about looking for TOOLS! I found this prett multi-purpose tool set online the other night and my mamasita got it for me tonight...! I can't wait to put it to good use!!

isn't it pretty?!?!
Too bad I'll have to wait a few months before I can really work it in.

Hope you all had a great day, I'm gonna try to head to bed early toinght.

Cheers!

P.s. Finished my holiday baking today...chocolate confetti (a bar made with chocolate, peanut butter and marshmallows) and Sweet Marie bars (a bottom layer of rice krispies, peanuts, peanut butter and brown sugar with a chocolate layer on top)...SO delish!!!

Holy Baking Bonanza Batman!!!

It was so tough coming up with some form of alliteration for this title! (That didn't include "Betty" or "blue"...thanks White Christmas! :D ).

In any case...

Hello folks!

Tonight was a craaaazy night filled with TONS of holiday baking with my mamasita!
I documented the evening in photographs, enjoy!!

Dis is my mama!
Some of the 8 DOZEN (more than that actually) shortbread cookies we made! Yummmm!
 A BIG mess! teehee!
Our cookie press...only ONE of the designs really worked properly and the press was SO hard to use! By the end of it we gave up and just rolled the cookie dough into balls and pressed it down with a fork! Mum says "they're not as 'delicate' as they should be..." but who cares! It's COOKIES!!! :D
Recipes, old and new. Tonight we made salted caramels, chocolate bark and shortbread cookies. Tomorrow is fudge (possibly...) "Sweet Marie Bars" (a family classic) and chocolate confetti (MY childhood FAVORITE!)...p.s. that recipe book you see right below my computer screen is my moms. She's had it since she was like...21!
This is our marble chocolate bark. Half with crushed candy canes and the other half with slivered almonds.
My baby Titan!! He kept us company ALL night. We also had "The Devil Wears Prada" running on mom's computer in the background...it was weird. I remember starting it then what feels like 2 seconds later it was done! Time really does fly when you're having fun!
The salted caramels cooling in the pan...so freakin' delish!!
Mumsie hard at work wrapping allllll those caramels, we filled an ENTIRE long ziplock container thing...
 Yum, yum, YUM!

That's all for tonight folks! After all these pictures of sweet treats I shall send you off with a bit of a savoury website. Scanwiches is a really cool website I found tonight while reading A Cup of Jo these sandwisches look SO tasty it makes me hungry!!

I hope you all had a great day (and for those of you on winter break, I hope you're resting up well).

Cheers!!
